Search for Top Chef Begins… Flintshire Chef of the Year 2011
Mold Food & Drink Festival is calling all professional chefs from across Flintshire to put their culinary skills to the test in a competition to find the Flintshire Chef of the Year 2011.
Preparations for this years’ festival to be held on the 24th and 25th September are well underway and Deeside College is sponsoring the prestigious Flintshire Chef of the Year competition, now in its’ sixth year, that will see the lucky winner receive a prize of £200 and a specially engraved glass trophy. The runner up will also be awarded with a prize from the College.
The competition has grown in popularity year on year and the standard of the dishes produced continues to be excellent which has led to the title of Flintshire Chef of the Year being well respected within the industry.
The competition will involve Deeside College co-ordinating a series of “cook-off” sessions for entrants in the lead up to the Mold Food & Drink Festival. The top two finalists from these stages will go through to compete on the stage for the title of ‘Flintshire Chef of the Year 2011’ on Sunday 25th September at the festival.
Carolyn Preece, Deeside College, says “This is a wonderful opportunity for professional chefs aged 16 and upwards to compete for an esteemed title. We really want to encourage as many chefs as possible to enter and this year we have removed the nominal entrance fee, so now there’s no excuse!
The competition requires the chefs to cook a two course meal incorporating locally sourced Welsh ingredients which gives the chefs the option to cook a starter and a main course or a main course and a dessert, whichever combination they prefer is fine with the judges.
The talent and expertise of the chefs we have here in Flintshire is incredible and has continued to impress us every year. This competition offers them a fantastic opportunity to win formal recognition of their culinary skills which is great for their career”.
To compete, entrants must already be working for a hotel, restaurant or public house located within Flintshire and must be aged 16 or over. Preparation and cooking time is 60 minutes and preparation of demi glaze and stock is permitted. Entrants can also peel their vegetables but not cut them, and at least three of the ingredients must be Welsh.
If you would like to enter, or you employ one or more chefs who you think could win this competition, just visit the website www.moldfoodfestival.co.uk and click on Competitions where you will find full details and an application form to be completed and returned to Carolyn Preece at Deeside College. The closing date for competition entries is Friday, August 12.
The Mold Food & Drink Festival is a True Taste Wales Festival and is funded by the Welsh Government.
