Photographers Get Snapping for Food Festival!

Members of Mold Camera Club are embracing the challenge set by organisers of the Mold Food & Drink Festival to capture food related images from the town of Mold and the surrounding area in the run up to this year’s festival.

The idea behind the challenge is to develop a library of photographs that can be used to help promote the Mold Food & Drink Festival both this year and in the future by showcasing the abundance of local and regional produce that is sold and served in local businesses and markets. As the festival has grown in size and recognition, organisers are keen to help develop Mold and its environs as a tourist destination and a foodie town that attracts visitors from both the local areas and further afield.

John Les Tomos, Chairman of Mold Food & Drink Festival says:

“This is a great collaboration involving local organisations working together for the good of the local area and I am sure we will have a fantastic collection of photos at the end of the process that can be used to promote Mold in a variety of ways.”

The brief given to members of the Mold Camera Club focuses on four main areas designed to photograph food from ‘field to fork’: food and drink production (including growing, farming and local processing), buying and selling food and drink (in shops, pubs, cafes, markets and special events) cooking, preparing and serving food and drink (in restaurants, hotels, pubs, stalls and take aways) and, of course, eating and drinking!

Chris Noble, Chairman of Mold Camera Club says:

“Mold Camera Club has a history of working with the local community and when the organisers of the Mold Food & Drink Festival asked us to be involved in their event we had no hesitation in saying yes. The members are already busy preparing entries for the competition and I am sure we will have no lack of support when it comes to the actual festival. Community involvement is something that I and my predecessor, David Allen, feel very strongly about and it is one of the reasons that Mold Camera Club is one of the strongest in the UK.”

Members will be given an opportunity to submit up to three entries into the photographic competition which has been kindly sponsored by The Academy of Design in Mold who have provided cash prizes totalling £250. Mr George Greatorex, who heads up the local family-run business says, “ The Academy of Design are delighted to be associated with the Mold Food and Drink Festival which brings thousands of people to our town. We’re really looking forward to seeing all the images that are entered into the competition and it will give us great pleasure to award the prizes to the winners.”

Mold Camera Club will supply a disc of competition entries to the Mold Food & Drink Festival committee at the end of July for judging during August. All the entries will be published on the festival website www.moldfoodfestival.co.uk . The winners will be announced and presented with their prizes on Sunday 25th September at the Mold Food & Drink Festival where photos from the competition will also be on display.

The Mold Food & Drink Festival is a True Taste Wales Festival and is funded by the Welsh Government.
