Flintshire Schoolchildren Show Bags of Creativity for Festival Poster

Children from junior schools across Flintshire have produced some fantastic designs for the Mold Food & Drink Festival ‘Eat a Healthy Lunch’ poster competition that launched in April. The competition invited children to create a poster promoting healthy eating with the winning design to be printed on one side of the recyclable carrier bags being specially produced for this year’s Mold Food & Drink Festival which will be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September on New Street car park.

The Mold Food & Drink Festival committee had the difficult task of judging the competition and selecting just four winners from the hundreds of entries submitted. The overall winning design was produced by Charlotte Percival aged 10 of Ysgol Bryn Coch and runners up are Lucy Richards aged 10 of Golftyn CP, Megan Lewis aged 9 of Ysgol Trelogan and Elen Dilkes aged 8 of Ysgol Bryn Coch.

Flintshire SchoolchildrenCharlotte’s unique design features a big red dancing heart character with stripy legs that highlights how eating a healthy diet keeps your heart healthy too. Charlotte says ‘I was going to do a heartbeat then I thought other people might do that so I decided just to keep the heart and then I had the idea to make it a dancing heart. I am really pleased to have won the competition and I can’t wait to see my design in print on the carrier bags!’

John Les Tomos, Chairman of Mold Food & Drink Festival says,

“We are delighted with the success of the competition which has really captured the creativity of our schoolchildren. The high standard of entries and the amount of thought and detail that has gone into the poster designs is very impressive and it is encouraging to see that even such relatively young children have a good grasp of what constitutes a healthy diet.”

Cash prizes for Charlotte and all three runners up together with a cheque for Charlotte’s school, Ysgol Bryn Coch, were presented by John Les Tomos at the Beaufort Park Hotel.

Charlotte’s design together with her name and school will shortly be sent to the printers in preparation for printing onto the thousands of carrier bags that will be handed to visitors over the festival weekend.
