Festival Launches “Eat a Healthy Lunch!” Poster Competition for Flintshire Schools

Schoolchildren from across Flintshire are getting stuck in to create a winning poster design that will be printed on one side of the recyclable carrier bags being specially produced for this year’s Mold Food & Drink Festival which will be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September on New Street car park.

Organisers of the festival are keen to give children from across the county a real connection with the event and encourage them to think more about the food they eat and where it comes from. John Les Tomos, Chairman of Mold Food & Drink Festival says, “This year we wanted to add a new dimension to the festival that would engage local children and we came up with the idea of a poster competition run in conjunction with our schools to promote healthy eating. The title of the poster is ‘Eat a Healthy Lunch!’ so we are looking for pupils to think about a balance of healthy foods for packed lunches, school dinners or something they can help to prepare at home. Locally sourced foods should be included as far as possible as we want to raise awareness amongst children of local food production. We are really looking forward to seeing the children’s ideas and designs and I can imagine judging may be a difficult task!”

The competition runs until Friday 27th May and will be judged by the Mold Food & Drink Festival committee. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning pupil and their school and second and third runners up. Shortly after the winning design is selected, it will be sent to the printers along with the name of the pupil and their school ready to be printed on the thousands of carrier bags that will be seen all around Mold and beyond over the festival weekend. A moment of fame for one lucky pupil!

Competition entries will be displayed in Clwyd Theatr Cymru on Saturday 24th September, the first day of the festival.
